Project Phases

Break a job into the stages it actually runs in — foundation, structure, finishing — and give each one its own planned dates, its own status and its own completion. Estimate lines and muster-roll entries are costed to a stage, so the programme can say which part of the job is late and what that part is worth, instead of one percentage for the whole site.

Switch: Settings > Projects > Project Phases. Permission: Projects to edit the programme; the value columns additionally need View Project Money.

Where it appears

Construction shell: a Phases tab on the project, a Phase / Stage picker on each estimate line and on a wage entry, and Phase Progress in Reports.

How a phase is measured

flowchart TD
    P[Phase: name · sequence · planned dates] --> Q{Any work items
on this phase?} Q -->|Yes| M[Completed value / quoted value
read off the BOQ lines] Q -->|No| H[The percentage you type in] M --> S[Status advances by itself:
not started - in progress - completed] H --> T[Status is whatever you set] S --> R[Phase board · Phase Progress report] T --> R
A stage with lines under it is never asked for a percentage — the lines already answer, and two answers would disagree.

Setting it up

    A[Settings > Projects
Project Phases on] --> B[Open a project > Phases
add the stages in order] B --> C[Save Programme] C --> D[Work Items: pick a Phase on each line] D --> E[Wages: pick a Phase on the muster roll] E --> F[Progress is measured stage by stage]
Add the stages first — a work item cannot be costed to a phase that does not exist yet.

Switching it off

The stages already entered stay on file and keep their dates and figures; only the tab, the pickers and the report go away, and they come back unchanged if it is switched on again. The settings page warns first if any stage is still running.
