Bill Coupons
A coupon is a code the customer quotes at the counter for a sum off the whole bill - "DIWALI20", 10% off, up to 500. It is the third and simplest of the three discount features: a promotional offer puts a product on the bill, a price rule re-prices the lines already on it, and a coupon takes an amount off the total once the code is entered.
Where it is in the app
Main menu: Coupons - every code the shop has printed, what each takes off, and whether it is running, paused or expired. At the counter the code is entered with the Coupon button on the bill, never in the product search (a code there would collide with item codes and barcodes).

What each field means
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Code | What the customer quotes. Case does not matter - "diwali20" claims "DIWALI20". Two live coupons cannot share a code. |
| Name | What the list calls it. Left blank, the code is the name. |
| % off / Amount off | One or the other. A percentage may carry an up to cap; a flat amount never does. |
| Only part of the catalogue | Narrows the coupon to a product group, and optionally to a category and sub-category inside it. The discount - and the minimum bill - are then worked out on what the bill holds from there, not on the whole bill. |
| Minimum bill | The bill has to reach this before the coupon applies. Judged on the goods value, before charges and before tax. |
| Valid dates | A festival window. Left blank, the coupon runs until it is paused. |
| Total uses / Per customer | How many bills may take it, in total and by one party. Counted off the bills themselves, so a deleted bill gives its count back. |
Using one at the counter
- Build the bill as usual.
- Tap Coupon and type the code the customer read out.
- The discount lands in the bill's discount field and the code is recorded on the voucher.
A coupon that cannot be taken says why, in words the cashier can repeat: the code names nothing, the coupon has expired or has not started, the bill has not reached its minimum, it has reached its limit, or this customer has already used it. A coupon the customer asked for by name outranks an automatic bill-value price rule - the rule stands aside rather than quietly replacing it.
Which of the three to use
| You want to... | Use |
|---|---|
| Sell a shampoo and conditioner together for one price | Promotional offer (Bundle/Combo) |
| Give a free soap with every two | Promotional offer (Buy X, get Y free) |
| Charge less for buying more, or discount a whole brand | Price rule |
| Give one party their own agreed rate | Price rule at customer scope |
| Print a code on a flyer for money off the bill | Coupon |
Notes
- Coupons sync like any other master data, so a code written on one device is claimable on every till in the shop.
- Pausing a coupon leaves it in the list to be switched back on next season; it is never deleted, so a bill that used it can still say what it was.
- Coupon codes used to live on promotional offers and on price rules. They do not any more - this is the one place a code is written.
